There are a few things as discouraging as dealing with dry and damaged hair. Environmental factors can be blamed. But hair products formulated with toxic chemicals are all guilty of harming our hair even more, with our full consent. Fortunately, we found the best cruelty-free and vegan shampoos and conditioners that will bring your damaged hair back to life.

We may earn commissions from links on this page, but we are independent and only feature vegan hair products we truly believe in. Why trust us?

About Dry & Damaged Hair

Dry hair can be hereditary, which means it is a particular genetic heritage you got from mom and dad. But let’s face it. Most of the time, you have dry or damaged hair because they have been compromised in some way.

When you’re stepping outside your home, your hair are exposed to a lot of environmental aggressors that harm your locks and make them dry: UV, saltwater (in the summer), coldness (in the winter) and more globally the air being polluted. But many of us worsen dryness and damage even more their hair because of a (bad) daily hair-care routine:

  • Applying chemical treatments
  • Too much brushing or brushing harshly
  • Styling with hot tools (e.g. blow dryer, curling, flat iron, tong)
  • Simply using the wrong kind of products for your hair type

And guess who is our favorite aggressor? Hair dyes and hair colors can damage your hair to a point where it can be difficult to revert back.

Cruelty-Free & Vegan Shampoos and Conditioners for Dry & Damaged Hair

When looking for the right shampoo and conditioner to repair dry and damaged hair, you should be concerned about the chemicals inside. Way too many products contains alcohols, silicones, and sulfates, and other chemicals that will dry your hair out even more. Not even mentioning they can be harmful to your health in the long run. And obviously, always make sure to preserve animals and look for a cruelty-free shampoo & conditioner.

How to Prevent Hair Damage

As the old adage says: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Prevent damage to your hair in the first place by using a bit of common sense:

  • If you like to wear your hair up, start by doing it more occasionally. And┬áthink about respecting your hair ahead prior to thinking about your new hair style.
  • Instead of tight elastic hair tie, prefer a soft scrunchie
  • Use a low temperature blowdryer instead of a flat iron
  • Choose a comfortable silk pillowcase for your nights, as silk helps reduce friction and decrease the chance of breakage, tangles and frizz
  • Try to shampoo your hair less frequently. Natural oils that come out of the scalp have great benefits.
  • Use a conditioner after
  • At the end of your cleaning routine, you can lock in all the moisture simply by rinsing your hair with cool water

If your hair is already damaged, you probably want to use a hair mask or deep conditioner, more nourishing than a regular conditioner.
